Yuri Hwang (b. 2001)  is a London-based expanded printmaker. She completed her MA in Print from the Royal College of Art (2025), and a BFA from the Ruskin School of Art, University of Oxford (2023). Her work has been exhibited internationally, including the Stanley Picker Gallery in Kingston, Greatorex Street Gallery in London, and Culterim Spaces, Berlin Backshop in Berlin. She was the recipient of the 2025/26 Stanley Picker Print Fellowship, and is the founding editor of the independent art review publication ‘Private View’.

Yuri Hwang’s practice centers around drypoint etching directly onto substrate (canvas or card), pushing oil paint into hand-scored crevices to create unique objects. Understanding print as a technology of mass reproduction - and the screen as its inheritor - Hwang’s work applies print's markmaking logic to painting's traditional support, exploring how images are valued in this age of excess. Figures emerge from built-up, uneven hatching, tonally blurred into their surroundings, reflecting how individuals engage with wider systems. The work asks the viewer to recognise their own complicity in looking: a voyeur who arrives to find they were already expected.
